Professor Kaz Negishi

Prof Kaz Negishi, MD, PhD, MSc is an academic cardiologist and clinical trialist based in Sydney, Australia. He completed his cardiology training and PhD in Japan then worked in the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, now in Australia. He was Head of Medicine at Sydney Medical School Nepean, University of Sydney, and since 2024 has served as Chair of Cardiovascular Research at the University of New South Wales, South Western Sydney. He also holds faculty appointments at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute and the Ingham Institute, and is an Honorary Professor at the University of Sydney.

A current Future Leader Fellow of the Heart Foundation of Australia, Prof Negishi has secured over $15 million in research funding and is the lead inventor on a global PCT patent for a novel ultrasound probe and system for therapeutic applications of ultrasound. He was recently awarded a Master’s degree in Health Economics, Outcomes, and Management in Cardiovascular Sciences from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

He is a global leader on sonoperfusion. Recently, he delivered prestigious Feigenbaum Lecture at the American Society of Echocardiography, the world top Echo society.
